Day 3, A Bit Misplayed

Hindsight is 20/20 and in hindsight, I definitely would have planned this day differently. We promised Luke the Science Museum, so that is where we started our day. Well, first we went to a playground, which was pretty fun. Then, it was off to the museum. Us and about 50 school groups of screaming, hyper elementary school students. We stayed for a couple of hours and then went to get lunch. Our plan had been to do the harbor cruise and maybe the Seattle Underground tour in the afternoon. However, it was raining pretty hard and we didn't want to walk to the cruise in the rain; we also reasoned we wouldn't have a good view with the bad weather. Jack still wanted to try the cruise, but instead I booked us tickets for a different attraction--the Chihuly Glass Garden. We had the Seattle CityPass, which gave us admission to the Aquarium, Space Needle and three other attractions The harbor cruise would have been number 5, but instead, we did the glass garden. Right after I booked, Thomas mentioned that he thought there would be enough of a break in the weather to still do the cruise. But, sadly, it was too late.

This fun little playground was right below the Space Needle. Thomas and the kids all climbed up and tried out the slides. The straight one was pretty fast!

The mirror illusion was really fun to play around with.
So, we went to the glass garden, which I liked, but only took us about 20 minutes to walk through. It wasn't really worth wasting one of our attractions on.

After that, we went back to the science center and saw a laser show set to the music of Abba. The girls, Luke and I laid on the floor in the front to get the full effect. Luke and I really liked it. The others thought it was okay. By now, the school groups had mostly cleared out, so we offered the kids more time in science center. But, they were ready to go. We also debated going back to Pike's Market, but everyone was ready to head back to the rental for a break. So, we hopped on the monorail, another relic from the World's Fair and rode in style to the light rail station.

The train station was pretty cool with big tunnels.

In retrospect, I wish we had done the harbor tour in the morning, then we could have done the science center during the rainy part of the day. Or, we even could have still gone. It was one of the things I was most looking forward to and I am sorry we missed it. I feel like that and the underground tour would have given us more of an understanding of the city.

After resting for a bit, we went to another Mariner's game. It was another value night, and it was very easy to get to from our rental, so we figured why not. The crowd was much bigger than Wednesday night's. They played the Astros both nights and both nights everyone booed the two players who were on the Astros when they got caught cheating in 2017. I asked Thomas if that happens everywhere they go and he said yes. Hopefully, they have gotten used to it and don't take it personally. Six years of being booed sounds pretty miserable. Although, apparently, they are big rivals for the Mariners, so maybe it isn't as bad in other places? I hate to say this, but it is really fun to boo at a baseball game. The whole stadium with the deep boo sound is really cool. I still remember the fun of booing Barry Bonds at the All-Star game in 2005 (and then cheering when he did well). Baseball culture maybe? Anyway, we had to be up early the next morning to catch a train, so we left at the start of the 8th inning. We wanted to stay, but knew people needed some sleep. We were "home" by 930 and in bed shortly thereafter.
