March Ends

The older kids got their latest report cards. They all had As and Bs. Anna showed tremendous improvement. She ended up with 6 As and 1 B. It was her best report card since we moved here. She did not have a single missed assignment and really enjoyed the quarter. In fact, none of them had any missing assignments. It was glorious! Florida has everything online and I found myself regularly checking their grades earlier in the year. We were constantly hounding Jack and Anna about missing work. It led to frustration and arguments and a general unpleasant atmosphere on many days. But, this past 9 weeks, we didn't have to remind them once. In fact, I went weeks without even looking at their grades. It was very nice for all of us! I hope a good lesson was learned and this is a sign of what to expect in the future.

Luke also got a report card, but his doesn't provide much insight. He had another standardized reading test and scored in the 99th percentile with a 4.9 reading level (equivalent to a 4th grader in their 9th month of school). I know that Luke is smart, but I don't put too much stock in reading tests. I feel like reading is a skill where everyone gets to the same place, just at different paces. I have definitely seen that with our kids. But, regardless, he loves learning and is enjoying the year.

Luke has had a few more baseball games; we only have 3 to go. He vacillates on how much he likes baseball, but fortunately, never complains about going to practice or the games. Frank and Marta drove up to watch a weeknight game. Luke got a hit and scored his first run (he has been stranded on first a few times). It was very nice of them to come and provided a good reminder of why I wanted to move to Florida. 

Thomas took the boys to the Battle of Narcoossee, a civil war reenactment. We look for history where we can find it! The boys enjoyed the weapons demonstrations and had a great time. But, it was heavy on a southern slant (referring to the Civil War as the War of Northern Aggression) and full of MAGA merchandise, so it wasn't our preferred crowd. But, it was important to Jack, so Thomas stayed and let them see the "battle." He made sure to have a good conversation with them on the drive home and unfortunately for Jack, I doubt we will go back.

That's really about it. Not much has happened in the past couple of weeks. Sophia's mom (Anita) has Covid. As does an acquaintance's husband (someone I talked with recently at the Lego birthday party).  Anita said she has never been this sick in her entire life and then it just gets worse. I feel terrible for her, but am glad she hasn't had to go to the hospital. We are trying to be helpful and are hoping she recovers soon.
